CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State sophomore swimmer Stephen Grove has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team in the men's at-large category in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The all-district second team consists of 11 NCAA Division I student-athletes from Ohio, Tennessee, Michigan, Alabama and Kentucky, while the men's at-large category consists of the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

"This is truly a great honor for Stephen and the men's swimming and diving program," CSU Director of Competitive Aquatics Wally Morton said. "During his time at Cleveland State, Steve has combined an excellent performance in the classroom with an outstanding work ethic to be successful in the pool. He is the ideal student-athlete and a true champion and I am excited to have the opportunity to coach him for two more seasons."

Grove was one the top swimmers in the Horizon League this season, breaking five school records at the Horizon League Championships, while finishing with the seventh most points for an individual swimmer (51).

He set a school record (20.41) in the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle and then went on to win the event with a time of 20.71. In addition, Grove placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 48.86, breaking a 22-year old school record in the process.

Grove was also a member of the 200 freestyle and 200 and 400 medley relay teams that captured titles with school record times.

In the classroom, the West Chester, Ohio native carries a 3.83 grade point average as a mechanical engineering major. His GPA is the best on the men's swimming team and ranked second among all male student-athletes at Cleveland State.

Grove's selection to the academic all-district team marks the third straight year that the Vikings had a student-athlete named to the team as Bjorn Schantz was named to the first team last year after garnering a spot on the second team in 2005-06.
