Five Vikings Named To Horizon League Winter Academic Teams

April 27, 2005

After performing at an exceptional level in both the classroom and competition, five Cleveland State athletes have been named to the 2005 Winter Academic All-Horizon League Teams. Men's swimmers Ryan Klaus, Gabriel Linton, Daniel Thomasson and Adam Wroblewski, as well as men's basketball player Greg Vlosich, were honored.

The teams are selected by the Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives from nominees who carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or better, have completed at least three semesters at the same institution and are a starter or significant contributor on their team.

Klaus, a senior marketing major with a 3.62 GPA, was one of the Vikings' top sprinters this season, swimming to top-five season times in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. He was the second fastest on the team in the 50 free (20.88) and 100 free (46.44) and third in the 100 butterfly (49.79).

Linton, a senior marketing and labor major with a 3.56 GPA, was named to the team for the second time. The Student Athlete Advisory Council co-president, he swam to top times in the 100 breast (58.82) and second in the 200 breast (2:08.24) and was a vital member of the medley relay teams, helping the 200 medley relay team (1:33.71) and 400 medley relay team (3:22.33) to top times on the season. Linton was a member of the Horizon League Champion 400 medley relay team and is fourth in the CSU record book in the 200 breast (2:06.04) and fifth all-time in the 100 breast (57.12).

Thomasson, named to the team for the second time, is a junior marketing major with a 3.62 GPA while serving as one of CSU's best freestylers. He was third fastest in the 200 freestyle (1:42.55), 500 free (4:40.22) and 1,000 free (9:42.77), fourth in the 100 free (47.47) and fifth in the 50 free (21.84) while helping the 200, 400 and 800 free relay teams to top times on the season. In the Cleveland State record book, Thomasson is the sixth fastest in school history in the 500 freestyle (4:34.27) and seventh all-time in the 200 free (1:41.68) and 1,650 free (16:07.91).

Wroblewski, a junior mechanical engineering major with a 3.85 GPA, was one of the team's top sprinters last season. He recorded the third fastest time in the 100 freestyle (48.09), fourth fastest in the 50 free (21.82) and fifth fastest in the 200 (1:47.64). He also helped the 200 and 400 free relay teams to top season times.

Vlosich, a sophomore graphic design major with a 3.53 GPA, is a walk-on player with men's basketball and was limited to three games this season. Last year, he played in the final 13 games of the season to average 11.1 minutes, 1.0 points and 1.0 rebounds.

"The success of these student athletes only reinforces our commitment to the educational mission of the university," Athletic Director Lee Reed said. "We are proud of the young men and women who excel not only in competition but in the classroom as well."
