NCAA Releases Qualifying Times For 2010 Championship

Cleveland, Ohio - The NCAA released the Division I men's swimming qualifiers for the 2010 NCAA Championship coming up in Columbus, Ohio March 25-27 and although no Cleveland State swimmers qualified for the meet, the Vikings were well represented among the nation's best swimmers, recording eight NCAA "B" cuts this season.

The NCAA made the announcement yesterday, Wednesday, March 10.

Jakub Dobies and Mark deSwardt led the Vikings this season, each setting two individual NCAA "B" cuts. CSU also set "B" cuts in four relays, the 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay, with all times being set at the Horizon League Championship (Feb. 24-27).

Dobies' "B" cuts came in the 100 breast and the 200 IM, placing 38th in the nation in the 100 breast (54.11) and 99th nationally in the 200 IM (1:49.09). His 200 IM time set a CSU and conference record.

deSwardt ranked 45th nationally in the 1,650 free (15:18.84) and 71st in the nation in the 400 IM (3:53.91). His 400 IM swim set a school record.

The 200 free relay had the highest relay rank for the men, ranking 38th nationally (1:21.28), while the 200 medley relay (42nd 1:29.29), 400 medley relay (47th 3:17.38) and the 400 free relay (51st 3:00.88) also ranked among the nation's best relays.

In the events in which Viking swimmers placed, the following number of teams/swimmers qualified for the NCAA Championship:

200 Free Relay: Top 15 teams
200 IM: Top 24 individuals
400 Medley Relay: Top 14 teams
200 Medley Relay: Top 14 teams
400 IM: Top 23 individuals
100 Breast: Top 24 individuals
1,650 Free: Top 23 individuals
400 Free Relay: Top 14 teams
