ANN ARBOR, Mich. - After securing a berth in the NCAA Diving Championships on Friday (March 2), senior Chris Dalman placed fourth in the three-meter dive on Saturday at the Zone C Diving Championships at the University of Michigan.

Dalman, whose third place finish in the one-meter dive earned him CSU's first NCAA Championships bid since 1976, scored 311.30 in the preliminary round and 343.35 for a 654.65 total. Ohio State's Hugh Showe won the event with a score of 730.00, followed by Purdue's Danny Cox (663.75) and Ohio State's West Wieser (661.65).

"Chris did a nice job on the three-meter and helped solidify his place at the NCAA Championships," diving coach Rich Karban said. "It's very exciting and he definitely belongs there with the top divers in the country."

Dalman will compete in the NCAA Championships March 15-17 at the University of Minnesota. The last Viking divers to qualify for the national meet were Ron Barrick and Jim Fedor 31 years ago.

Junior Dan Baiko also competed in the three-meter, totaling 260.75 to place 22nd among the 38 competitors.
