A Wrap-Up of the First Day of the Horizon League Championships

Feb. 24, 2011

A conference championship at the college level is truly an event that should be witnessed by every avid sports fan. The energy level of the crowd and swimmers on deck is enough to give anyone an adrenalin rush.

Four events make up the opening day of conference in the Horizon League. They consist of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the 1000 Yard Freestyle, Women's Three Meter Diving, and finishing up with the 200 Yard Medley Relay.

The Viking Men and Women both won the opening relay in record-breaking fashion. Kacey Cummings finished third overall in three meter diving, Mark De Swardt winning the 1000 Yard Freestyle, along with the women winning the 200 Medley Relay and on the mens side they came in a close second place.

Both relays for the men swam fast enough to get NCAA B cuts, which gives them a chance to go to the NCAA Championship.

Overall it was a great opening day to conference with our women in third place overall and the men leading in first place!

Come and show support for your Vikings over the next three days of conference!
