Viking Swimmers Sweep Conference Honors

Feb. 13, 2002

CLEVELAND, OH - Cleveland State swept the Horizon League Swimmers of the Week awards when the league offices announced that Brett Thomas and Georgian Peric were honored for their performances during the week of Feb. 5-11.

Thomas, a junior from Berea, Ohio, grabbed four individual first-place finishes and swam as part of two relay wins over the weekend. Thomas swept the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, swam anchor on the 400-yard medley relay against the University of Illinois-Chicago, and helped the Vikings win the 400-yard freestyle relay at Notre Dame.

Thomas helped lead the men's team to its fifth double-digit victory total in the last 10 years as it finished 11-3.

Peric, a senior co-captain from Euclid, Ohio, swimming against UIC in the final home meet of her CSU career, won the 200-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard individual medley and was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team.

Peric was a main reason the women's team posted a 9-5 record - its best since 1998-99.

Thomas and Peric will spend the next two weeks training with their teams before heading to Chicago for the Horizon League Championships on the weekend of Feb. 27-March 2.
