Thatcher Carr Named Co-Athlete Of The Week

Feb. 8, 2005

After diving to a Busbey Natatorium record at one-meter boards on Saturday (Feb. 5), senior diver Thatcher Carr has been named the Horizon League's Co-Male Swim Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday (Feb. 8).

Carr set the school- and Busbey Natatorium-record for one-meter diving (six dives) against UIC with a 410.93. He has broken the one-meter school record four times so far this season after initially breaking Justin Sochor's 1995 record of 322.20 in his first meet with the Vikings.

In addition to his record-setting performance, Carr also won each of the four diving events on the weekend. He dove to top marks of 346.80 at one meter and 367.80 at three meter against Wright State, as well as best 409.95 at three meter against UIC.

"It's a great accomplishment for Thatcher," head diving coach Rich Karban said. "He's easily the best diver in the conference right now and is going to do very well in the championships."

Carr shares this week's honor with UW-Milwaukee's Elvis Cirikovic, who swam to top times in the 50 and 100 freestyles at CSU. It is the second time Carr has received the league honor this year.

The Vikings will remain idle from competition until the Horizon League Championships in Indianapolis beginning on March 23.
