Indianapolis, Ind. - After posting two individual victories and a second place finish at Oakland this past weekend, Cleveland State senior Jakub Dobies earned Horizon League Swimmer of the Week honors for the period of Jan. 25-Jan. 31.

The league office made the announcement Monday (Feb. 1).

Dobies' winning time of 56.89 in the 100 breaststroke was only 1.38 seconds off the NCAA "B" standard of 55.51, while he also touched first in the 100 free with a time of 46.64.

He finished second by just eight one-hundredths of a second in the 200 freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:42.48, the second fastest time this season for CSU.

"This was the first meet this season that Jakub swam freestyle events and he responded with outstanding performances in both the 100 and 200 events," head coach Wally Morton said. "Even more impressive is that his 100 free time is one of his best dual meet times of his career. He swam in three events for us at Oakland which is something he hasn't done this season and he was able to step up for us which is a good indicator for what is to come with him at the Horizon League championships."

Dobies takes home his third weekly honor of the season and the fourth of his career. CSU has now won swimmer or diver of the week honors nine times, the most out of all Horizon League schools.

Dobies and the Vikings will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 6) when they host UIC with diving beginning at 12:00 noon and swimming starting at 1:00 p.m. The meet will also be Senior Day for three Vikings, including Dobies, Stephen Grove and Todd Winchell.
