Cleveland State junior Todd Winchell, who posted solid back-to-back meets for the Vikings, has been named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week. The league made the announcement on Wednesday (Jan. 21).

"Todd is having a fantastic year," head coach Wally Morton said. "He has already broken the 100 butterfly school record and continues to get faster every year in all his events. He has a great underwater kick, which has been the foundation for his success. I am very pleased that Todd has received the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week honor, as it reflects his consistent performances."

In last two dual meets Winchell recorded wins in four events, took second in another, was a member of a second-place relay team and picked up team and season best times in two events. On Jan. 10 vs. Xavier he won the 200 free in 1:43.36, swimming a team (and his) best time of the season. During the meet he also won the 100 fly (51.21) and swam the third leg of CSU's winning 200 medley relay. On Jan. 16 vs. Oakland he won the 100 fly in 50.02 and placed second in the 100 back (52.23). In the leadoff leg of CSU's second-place 200 medley relay team, he swam a team (and his) best time of the season with a time of 24.03 in the 50 back.

Winchell and the Vikings will be in action on Saturday (Jan. 24) in their final home meet of the season. The men host Wright State at 2:00 p.m. while the women face off against Wright State and Youngstown State.
