Vickers Sets Third Meet Record As Vikings Finish Third

AKRON - Warren Vickers grabbed his third individual meet record in three days to lead the Vikings to a third-place finish at the Zips Invitational in Akron on Saturday. The women's team finished ninth in the field.

Vickers won the 100 freestyle on Saturday in 45.53 to give him his third individual mark of the meet. He also won the 400 individual medley in 4:04.07 on Friday, along with the 200 individual medley on Thursday. Vickers was also a part of the two relays that won with a meet record. Saturday's 400 freestyle relay team of Vickers, Lyle Wilkens, Daniel Thomasson and Luke Wilkens also posted a new meet mark of 3:04.42, joining the 400 medley relay that set a meet mark on Thursday.

Pieter Pelser and Luke Wilkens also set a pair of meet records over the weekend. Pelser broke both the 100 and 200 backstroke event marks over the weekend, setting the 100 back mark on Friday at 50.31, and claimed the 200 back record on Saturday, posting a time of 1:48.25. Wilkens won the 200 butterfly on Friday in a meet-best time of 1:51.87, while setting another mark in the 500 freestyle on Thursday.

In women's action at the Zips Invitational, Samantha Jones claimed a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke on Friday, winning the event in 58.06. Jones also claimed fifth in the 100 butterfly on Friday in 58.14, and third in the 200 back on Saturday in 2:06.30. Kirsty McKechnie added a third-place finish in the 400 individual medley on Friday with a time of 4:36.10.

The Vikings are off until January, when their annual training trip takes them to south Florida. Cleveland State will take on Florida International and Houston's women on Jan. 11, in Biscayne Bay, Fla.
