Swim Teams Fall At St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. - Marianne Lionell, Daniel Thomasson and Warren Vickers picked up a pair of wins apiece, but the Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by St. Bonaventure University on Saturday in Olean, N.Y. The women's team fell by a 119-91 margin, while the men fell by a 135-108 count.

Lionell won the 50 freestyle in 25.02 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.33 to lead the Viking women. Samantha Jones chipped in with a win in the 100 backstroke in 59.52, while Kirsty McKechnie won the 500 freestyle in 5:16.33 to finish out the wins for the Vikings. The women's 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.01 to finish out the women's meet.

On the men's side, Thomasson won the 1000 freestyle in 9:45.08 and picked up a win in the 500 freestyle in 4:45.45. Vickers won both the 100 and 200 freestyles, winning the 100 in 47.64 and the 200 in 1:45.42.

Niall McGrane and Pieter Pelser each had wins for the Vikings as well on the day. McGrane won the 200 butterfly in 1:59.11, while Pelser claimed first in the 200 backstroke in 1:52.19. The men's 400 freestyle relay also won to close out the meet, finishing in 3:13.82.

Both teams will return to action on Wednesday as they host Gannon and Baldwin-Wallace at 3 p.m. at the Busbey Natatorium.
