Men's Swimming & Diving Gearing Up For Championships

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland State men's swimming and diving team finished the regular season at 11-3 after splitting its final two meets this past weekend. The Vikings throttled Illinois-Chicago in Robert F. Busbey Natatorium Friday, 138-66, before falling at Notre Dame on Saturday, 128-106.

Junior Brett Thomas (Berea, Ohio/Berea) grabbed four individual first-place finishes and two relay wins over the weekend. Thomas swept the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, swam anchor on the 400-yard medley relay against UIC, and helped the Vikings win the 400-yard freestyle relay at Notre Dame.

Another Berea High School standout, sophomore diver Chris Jones (Brookpark, Ohio/Berea), captured a pair of first- and second-place finishes, winning the 1- and 3-meter events at home and taking seconds at ND. For more on Jones, check out the feature on the men's swimming and diving section.

Showing great form heading into the championships, freshman Gabriel Linton (Nora, Sweden/Rudbecksskolan) won the 200-yard breaststroke at Notre Dame and swam on the victorious 800-yard freestyle relay team against UIC.

Also one-to-watch in Chicago is sophomore Warren Vickers (Durban, South Africa/Durban). Against UIC, Vickers won the 200-yard IM and swam with Thomas on the winning 400-yard medley relay. At ND, Vickers brought home a win the in 200-yard freestyle and as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The team will rest up and prepare for the Horizon League Championships in Chicago starting February 27.
