CLEVELAND, Ohio - Freshman transfer Jakub Dobies made his Viking debut a memorable one, setting a school record in the 100 breast in :55.29 and the Vikings won five events en route to a 2-1 showing on Saturday at the Busbey Natatorium. The Vikings downed Duquesne (157-69) and Xavier (168-58) but lost to Notre Dame (154-87) in the dual scores. The Vikings are now 9-3 on the season.

Dobies, a Poland native who just enrolled at Cleveland State, dominated the 100 breast, winning by over 2.5 seconds. The previous school record in the event was 55.95 by Brian Lamers in 1995.

"It is great to add Jakub to our team," head coach Wally Morton said. "Having him really helps and for him to set a school record in his first meet is quite a performance."

Dobies also placed fourth in the 50 free (21.82) and swam in the 200 medley relay.

Junior Dave Duecker won the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.55 and sophomore Marko Milenkovic took first in the 100 free (46.48).

Senior Chris Dalman continued his dominance on the diving boards, winning the one-meter with a score of 349.72 and the three-meter (364.27), where he edged Notre Dame's Michael Bulfin (359.25).

Notre Dame placed first in six events to win by large margins in each of its duals. The Irish won both relays and the 1,000, 200 and 500 free events, while also winning the 100 fly.

The Vikings return to action on Saturday, Jan. 27 against Miami (OH). The meet, which will serve as senior day, will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Busbey Natatorium.
