CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams hit the road for their biggest event of the season as both programs head to Oakland for the Horizon League Championships this week.

The four-day meet runs Wednesday, Feb. 19, through Saturday, Feb. 22. The is just the second time the meet has been held in Michigan with the first occurrence taking place in 2016.

The Cleveland State men have been among the top two at the league meet in seven of the past eight years. The Vikings posted 607.5 points at the league meet last year, their third consecutive year surpassing the 600-point threshold.

The Vikings have the top-seeded individual or relay in seven events on the men's side. Junior Timothy Kubacki leads the way as he is the top seed in both the 200 IM and 400 IM while also being listed second on the psych sheet in the 500 free and third in the 200 backstroke. In the latter two events, Kubacki trails classmate Dominik Niedzialek by one spot as Niedzialek is listed as the top seed in the 500 free and is second in both backstroke events.

Senior Matthew Martin is the defending HL champion in the 100 fly and enters this meet as the top seed in the 200 fly. Sophomore Jack Krusinski is the top seed in the 200 breaststroke while CSU also owns the top time in the league this season in the men's 200 freestyle relay.

Junior Matt Akers is the top seed in men's 3-meter diving and is also listed third in the 1-meter event. His teammate on the women's side, freshman Emma Kerro, is among the top three seeds in both women's diving events.

The 500 freestyle projects to be one of the stronger events for the CSU women as three Vikings—Lexie Kostelnik, Rachel Contich and Sule van der Merwe—are all among the top seven while CSU has five total among the top 16.

Kostelnik is among the top five in the 1650 freestyle along with the 500 while van der Merwe is also among the top eight in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM.

Sophomore Agnes Bahr is the top seed for the 400 IM on the women's side and is also among the top eight in both the 200 back and 200 IM. Junior Alana Cartwright is among the top eight in both breaststroke events for CSU and sits ninth in the 200 IM.

The CSU women placed fourth at the HL Championships last year as they claimed 500.5 points.
