CSU Closes Regular Season at Home This Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving programs close the regular season this weekend with a home dual meet.

CSU will welcome Oakland this Saturday, Jan. 26, at a recently adjusted start time of 2:00 p.m. The Vikings will honor their senior class in advance of the meet in a ceremony beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m. The order of events for the meet is listed below.

Live swimming results will be available on the Meet Mobile app while live diving results will be available on divemeets.com.

Both Viking teams opened the 2019 portion of their season two weeks ago with tri-duals at IUPUI on back-to-back days, both of which also featured UIC. The women's team's scheduled meet at Marshall this past weekend was canceled due to the travel impacts of the winter weather.

The CSU men split two duals against both the Jaguars and the Flames last weekend. Sophomore Dominik Niedizalek won two individual events over the course of the two days and placed second in two others. Junior Matthew Martin swept the butterfly events over the course of the two meets while sophomore Matt Akers won in both 1-meter and 3-meter action over the course of the two meets.

Niedzialek has the top time this season in the Horizon League in the 200 backstroke while Martin is fastest in the 200 butterfly.

Senior Molly McNamara won all four individual events she entered over the two days and also swam on the winning 400 medley relay squad. She was subsequently named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season.

Sophomore Alana Cartwright also swam on the winning medley relay and won the 200 breaststroke in Saturday's action, one day after finishing second in the 100 breaststroke. Cartwright, McNamara and junior Madi Jaszcz own three of the top five times in the League in the 100 butterfly this season. Cartwright, McNamara, freshman Agnes Bahr and senior Claudia Zido all sit among the 10 fastest times in the 200 IM for the League in 2018-19.

Despite Oakland joining the Horizon League in 2013, this will be the 11th consecutive season in which both the men's and women's programs have faced off against the Golden Grizzlies. Oakland swept last season's dual meetings in Michigan, claiming a 194-106 win on the men's side and a 179.5-120.5 triumph on the women's side.

Oakland is the reigning League champion in both genders. The Golden Grizzlies are 4-4 on the men's side and 7-5 on the women's side in dual action. The Oakland women are 4-0 against HL foes in dual action while the men are 2-1, suffering a setback at Green Bay. Both teams defeated IUPUI last weekend and lost to Michigan State. Like CSU, this is Oakland's final regular-season meet.

Cleveland State will resume action at the Horizon League Championships, hosted by IUPUI, Feb. 13-16.
