Sikatzki Invited to NCAA Championships Again

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior Philipp Sikatzki of the Cleveland State University men's swimming team was officially invited to the NCAA Championships for a second consecutive year in an announcement made by the organization Wednesday.

The 2017 NCAA Championships are taking place March 22-25 at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis.

Sikatzki qualified for NCAA's with his title-winning swim in the 100 butterfly at last month's Horizon League Championships that he won in 45.97 seconds. He is projected to enter this year's NCAA event as the 18th seed in the 100 fly.

Sikatzki is also eligible to swim in two other individual events at NCAA's in which he achieved 'B' cut times during this past season. He posted 'B' cut times in the 100 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and the 200 IM as an individual and also met the standards in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle when serving as the lead leg on a relay.

At last year's NCAA meet, Sikatzki became the second All-American in program history and the first to claim First Team accolades. He finished fourth in the 100 fly in a school and League record time of 45.37 seconds. He also placed among the top 26 at the meet in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

After dominating at the League Championships in February, Sikatzki was named both Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year and Men's Swimmer of the Meet for the second straight season. He became the first individual in League history to win Men's Athlete of the Year in back-to-back seasons.

Sikatzki won all three individual events he entered at the League Championships in pool-record time. He broke the school and League Championships records in winning the 100 freestyle by over two seconds and also helped the Vikings to a pair of relay victories, including shattering the school record in the 400 free relay. Sikatzki also broke the school record in the 200 freestyle when he led off the 800 free relay with a split of 1:35.87. He won eight individual titles in the three seasons in which he swam in the League.

ESPN3 will stream the finals sessions on Friday and Saturday. Morning sessions on Friday and Saturday and both sessions on Thursday will be streamed on www.ncaa.com.

The IU Natatorium has previously hosted multiple U.S. Olympic Trials as well as the USA Swimming National Championships. It is the largest indoor pool in the world in terms of seating capacity.

Swimmers qualified for the NCAA Championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered.
