Cleveland State Done With Day One at OSU

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming teams continued their season by taking part in the first day of the Ohio State Winter Invitational Saturday inside The Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

A limited number of Cleveland State student-athletes took part in the event, as just over a dozen combined Vikings participated.

Freshman Ismary Puente was one of the top female finishers for CSU, as she finished 15th of 39 competitors in the 100 freestyle in 52.77 seconds. Sophomore Kimberly Jimenez took 23rd in the same event (52.93). Jimenez also was ninth in the 500 freestyle in 5:08.07.

A pair of Vikings were among the top 13 in the 100 butterfly. Freshman Lauren Frank was 10th in 59.47 seconds while sophomore Emma Flynn was 13th in 1:01.41.

Freshman Chuchu Yang was fifth in the 400 IM in 4:35.28. Freshman Abby Parsons was 15th in the 100 backstroke in 58.29 seconds.

On the men's side, freshman Jack MacDonald led the way by finishing 19th of 32 in the 100 freestyle in 46.56 seconds. Freshman Sam Sawyer was 13th of 19 in the 100 butterfly in 50.77 seconds. Sawyer had the 11th fastest time in the 100 backstroke preliminaries but did not swim in the final.

Freshman Spencer Tretter took 12th in the 500 freestyle in 4:40.09 while sophomore Chad Wright was right behind in 13th in 4:47.33.

Sophomore Ryan Johnson was 15th in the 100 breaststroke in 57.23 seconds.

Cleveland State will conclude action in the two-day event at Ohio State Sunday.
