McLaughlin, Sikatzki Honored with Weekly Accolades

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Seniors Declan McLaughlin and Philipp Sikatzki of the Cleveland State University men's swimming team both earned weekly honors in announcements early this week.

McLaughlin was named CollegeSwimming's Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week while Sikatzki claimed the honor from the League office itself after both swam competitively in their home pool for the final time as collegians.

McLaughlin's honor is his first of the season. Sikatzki claims his fourth League honor this season and seventh overall when combining accolades from CollegeSwimming.

McLaughlin won the 50 freestyle in this past Saturday's dual against Buffalo, stopping the clock in 21.37 seconds. It was his fastest swim in that event since the Magnus Cup back in November. He also anchored CSU's fastest relay teams in both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. He notched a 20.21 split in the 200 medley to help the relay win the event in 1:29.84. McLaughlin's 200 free split was 20.58 seconds, which helped the relay finish in 1:22.81.

Similar to McLaughlin, Sikatzki won an individual event and also swam on the Vikings' top two relays. Sikatzki won the 100 butterfly in 47.46 seconds, as he was under the NCAA 'B' cut time for the sixth time this season in that event. He swam the lead leg in both relays, posting a split of 22.37 seconds in the medley relay and a split of 20.97 seconds in the freestyle relay.

A select group of Vikings will compete at the two-day Ohio State Winter Invitational meet this weekend before the team contests the League Championships in the final week of February.
