Chicago, Ill. - The Cleveland State University men's swimming and diving team clinched its victory over host UIC on the final event of the meet as the Vikings competed against a Horizon League foe for the first time this season Saturday at Flames Natatorium.

The CSU men won, 150.5-149.5, while the Viking women fell to the Flames, 176-124.

The Vikings just returned a few days ago from the teams' training trip to Puerto Rico. This meet was the first competition for CSU, in a traditional short-course yards format, since the weekend before Thanksgiving.

On the men's side, Cleveland State needed at least a second-place finish in the final event, the 200 free relay, to secure the win. The quartet of Declan McLaughlin, Phillip Brittain, Aidan Burton and Robert Tolson did just that, as they stopped the clock in 1:25.03 to take second.

Four Viking men won individual events Saturday, led by senior Philipp Sikatzki's three victories. Sikatzki won the 50 freestyle (20.71) in his first individual swim, before claiming the 100 free (45.97) and the 100 butterfly (48.33). Sikatzki won his signature event, the 100 fly, by over three seconds.

Sophomore Tommi Wolst picked up two wins Saturday, as he won the 100 back (50.93) and the 200 IM (1:53.32). Wolst also took second in the 200 backstroke in 1:49.81.

Freshman DJ Arslanian won the 200 butterfly in 1:54.65 and took third in the 100 fly in 51.45 seconds. Junior Patrick Tippen won the 100 breaststroke in 58.91 seconds. Sophomore Jared Stergar finished in the runner-up position in both breaststroke events, finishing the 100 in 59.13 seconds and the 200 in 2:10.25.

Tolson and sophomore MacJilton Lewis both notched runner-up finishes in freestyle events. Tolson finished the 200 in 1:45.20, and Lewis touched the wall in the 1000 in 9:59.49. Freshman Tyler Stevenson added a pair of third-place efforts in freestyle events agains the Flames, stopping the clock in the 200 in 1:45.25 and the 500 in 4:48.88.

Sikatzki, Wolst and Tolson teamed up with junior Grant Wethington to win the 400 medley relay in 3:23.20.

Sophomore Curtis Roden took second in 3-meter diving, posting 293.55 points. He was third in the 1-meter with 247.43 points.

On the women's side, sophomore Molly McNamara won two individual events and also swam on CSU's winning 400 medley relay team. McNamara won both butterfly events, taking the 100 in 57.49 seconds and claiming the 200 in 2:04.82. She also was the runner-up in the 200 IM, which she finished in 2:09.96.

Junior Jamie VanDewerker led CSU to a 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle as she touched the wall in 24.63 seconds to win. Freshman Gabriella Marinelli was second in the 50 free as well as the 100 free. Marinelli was .07 seconds behind VanDewerker in the 50 and was CSU's top finisher in the 100 in 53.20 seconds.

Sophomore Cassandra Oltman, junior Tobie Zeller, McNamara and freshman Meghan Bobick combined to win the 400 medley relay in 3:53.54.

Zeller took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.91 while Bobick had a pair of top-three finishes. Bobick was second in the 200 freestyle (1:54.55) and was third in the 100 free (53.55).

Bobick, Marinelli, senior Anna Evans and VanDewerker took second in the 200 free relay in 1:37.89.

Sophomore Claudia Zido had two top-three efforts Saturday. She was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:16.48 and took third in the 1000 in 10:48.16.

Senior Tori Taffner won both diving events on the women's side. She topped the 1-meter event with 240.90 points and led the field in the 3-meter event with 244.73 points.

The CSU women will be right back in action this coming Monday as they host League foe Youngstown State at 5:00 p.m.
