Men in 2nd; Women in 6th After Third Day of Horizon League Championship

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championships continued on Friday and the Cleveland State men's team remained in second place, while the CSU women are in sixth place.

The Viking men have 447.5 points and trail Oakland who has 587 points heading into the final day of competition on Saturday. The CSU women have scored 231.5 points.

Philipp Sikatzki had a strong night, winning the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke with NCAA "B" cut times in both events. He swam a 45.90 in the 100 fly, setting school, pool, Horizon League and championship records and followed that with a finals time of 46.74 in the 100 back.

His time of 45.90 in the 100 fly narrowly missed the NCAA A cut (45.85). 

Szymon Golczyk was right behind his teammate in the 100 butterfly, registering an NCAA "B" cut with a time of 46.73.

The duo of Sikatzki and Golczyk teamed with Tommi Wolst and Phillip Brittain for one of the most exciting swims of the night as the group took second place in the 400 medley relay, just .05 seconds behind first place Oakland. 

Sikatzki set a school, pool, Horizon League and championship record by swimming a 46.41 in the opening backstroke leg.

Wolst and Gage Alleman both had third place finishes tonight with Wolst taking third in the 100 breaststroke with an NCAA "B" cut time of 54.65. Alleman was third in the 400 IM in 3:55.04.

Several CSU women also put up strong showings tonight, highlighted by Molly McNamara who was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly in 54.63.

Tobie Zeller was third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.09, while Jamie VanDerwerker finished fourth in the 100 backstroke in 56.00.

The final day of the Horizon League Championship will be contested on Saturday. The prelims will begin at 10:00 am with the finals slated to start at 5:30 pm.
