Vikings Continue Action At Horizon League Championship

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Action at the 2016 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship continued Thursday, with four swimming events and the women's 1-meter diving event taking place.

For the men, the Vikings had their best showing in the 200 Individual Medley, as four swimmers qualified for the finals. Tommi Wolst posted Cleveland State's highest finish, posting a program-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:47.83. Szymon Golczyk also posted an NCAA B cut, finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:49.03. Gage Alleman finished sixth in a time of 1:50.26 and Jared Stergar finished seventh in 1:51.42 to round out the Viking finalists. 

The Vikings also had multiple finalists in the 50 Freestyle, with Robert Tolson and Declan McLaughlin both advancing. Tolson finished sixth with a time of 20.65, while McLaughlin placed eighth in a time of 20.92.

Cleveland State finished second in the lone relay on the night, finishing as the runner-up in the 200 Free Relay. The Viking quartet of McLaughlin, Adam Ingledew, Phillip Brittain, and Tolson posted a season-best time of 1:21.47.

After two days at the Horizon League Championship, the Vikings stand in second place with 222.5 points.

The women had their best finish on the diving board Thursday, as Tori Taffner placed fourth in the 1-meter event. Taffner posted a score of 253.85 during the prelims, and then tallied a score of 259.70 in the finals.

Molly McNamara was also a finalist for the Vikings on the second day of championship action, placing sixth in the 200 Individual Medley. McNamara posted a season-best time of 2:04.72 in the finals, a time that also marks the third fastest time in program history.

Heading into Friday's action, the Vikings sit in sixth place with 137 points.

Action will continue tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 26), with the following events taking place:

400 Individual Medley
100 Butterfly
200 Freestyle
100 Breaststroke
100 Backstroke
1-Meter Diving (Men)
400 Medley Relay 

Swimming prelims will start at 10:00 a.m., with diving prelims beginning at 1:30 p.m. Finals will start at 5:30.
