Vikings Set For 2016 Horizon League Swimming & Diving Championship

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set for the 2016 Horizon League Championship, which will take place this Wednesday (February 24) through Saturday (February 27). The 2016 championship will be hosted by Oakland University and will take place in the Oakland Aquatic Center.

**Women will compete first in all events, followed by men. Prelims will start at 10:00 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Finals will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Diving prelims will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by finals at 5:30 p.m. each day.**

CSU MEN'S CAREER RECORD BOOK
Entering the 2016 Horizon League Championships the Vikings have recorded 15 individual CSU career record book top-10 times this season, including a pair of program-bests from Szymon Golczyk in the 200 Fly (1:46.30) and Tommi Wolst in the 200 IM (1:48.53). The Vikings have also recorded top-10 times in the 50 Free (Philipp Sikatzki, 20.20, 6th), 100 Free (Philipp Sikatzki, 44.08, 3rd), 200 Free (Philipp Sikatzki, 1:38.43, 2nd), 500 Free (Mac Lewis, 4:28.85, 4th), 100 Back (Philipp Sikatzki, 47.44, 2nd & Tommi Wolst, 48.83, 4th), 200 Back (Tommi Wolst, 1:47.63, 2nd), 100 Fly (Philipp Sikatzki, 46.93, 2nd & Szymon Golczyk, 47.37, 3rd), 100 Breast (Tommi Wolst, 55.14, 3rd), 200 IM (Philipp Sikatzki, 1:48.74, 2nd), 400 IM (Tommi Wolst, 3:59.56, 8th & Gage Alleman, 4:00.21, 10th).

CSU WOMEN'S CAREER RECORD BOOK
Entering the 2016 Horizon League Championships the Vikings have recorded 10 individual CSU career record book top-10 times this season, including a program-best from Molly McNamara in the 200 Fly (2:01.12). The Vikings have also recorded top-10 times in the 100 Free (Jamie Vandewerker, 51.68, 8th), 500 Free (Claudia Zido, 5:02.30, 8th), 1650 Free (Bethany Robertson, 17:45.24, 10th), 100 Back (Anna Evans, 58.35, 9th), 200 Back (Michaela Bargardi, 2:06.08, 7th), 100 Fly (Molly McNamara, 55.07, 5th & Cassie Oltman, 57.41, 9th), 100 Breast (Tobie Zeller, 1:05.63, 7th), 200 Individual Medley (Molly McNamara, 2:06.77, 6th).

HORIZON LEAGUE WEEKLY HONORS
So far this season five Vikings have combined to pick up 10 weekly honors from the Horizon League, including a team-high four Swimmer of the Week accolades for Philipp Sikatzki (Feb. 9, Jan. 19, Nov. 24, Oct. 20). Danny Roberts has picked up Diver of the Week honors three times (Jan. 19, Nov. 10, Oct. 28), while Tommi Wolst (Feb. 2), Szymon Golczyk (Nov. 10), and Molly McNamara (Feb. 2) have each earned one weekly honor. 

CLEVELAND STATE AT THE HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The men will be chasing their fifth Horizon League title, while the women will be trying for their first team championship. On the men's side, Cleveland State most recently captured the Horizon League crown during the 2012-13 season, while the women had their highest finish during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons (runner-up). 

…REIGNING INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION
Philipp Sikatzki will be defending his individual titles in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly events this year, as Sikatzki took home first place honors as a sophomore last season. Sikatzki posted a time of 47.67 to win the 100 back, while he set a Horizon League Championship meet record with a time of 46.96 in the 100 fly.
