Men’s Swim & Dive Defeats Wright State On Senior Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted their final home meet of the season Saturday, welcoming in the Wright State Raiders. The men earned a 176-124 victory over WSU, while the women fell to the Raiders by a score of 158-142.

Men – Cleveland State 176, Wright State 124
Danny Roberts swept the 1M and 3M diving events Saturday, winning the 3M board with 303.30 points and winning the 1M board with 323.93 points.

The Vikings were also able to pick up a pair of wins in the relay events, with the Cleveland State A-team posting a time of 1:30.37 in the 200 medley relay and a time of 1:24.10 in the 200 free relay.

In the individual events, the Vikings picked up seven wins out of 12 races. Cleveland State had its best showing in the 1000 free, 50 free, and the 100 free - placing one-two in all three races. In the 1000 free Mac Lewis placed first with a time of 9:50.39, while Patrick Walsh finished second in 9:51.84. Declan McLaughlin won the 50 free (21.40), while Patrick Tippen placed second (21.63) in the event, while Philipp Sikatzki won the 100 free (45.67) and Robert Tolson finished second (46.91).

Sikatzki also won the 200 free in a time of 1:41.37, while Cleveland State's other three victories came in the 200 butterfly (Szymon Golczyk – 1:47.81), 200 backstroke (Tommi Wolst – 1:48.67), and the 100 butterfly (Golczyk – 47.79).

In addition, the Vikings also posted four other second place finishes on the day; Wolst (100 back-49.56 & 400 IM-4:02.31), Gage Alleman (200 breast-2:07.54), and Patrick Walsh (500 free-4:47.27).

Women – Wright State 158, Cleveland State 142
Tori Taffner led the Cleveland State divers Saturday, winning the 1M board with a score of 265.88, and placing second in the 3M event with a score of 263.40.

The Vikings' A-team finished second in both relays on the day, posting a time of 1:38.35 in the 200 free and a time of 1:48.23 in the 200 medley relay.

The duo of Claudia Zido and Jodi Turk placed one-two in the 1000 and 500 free events, Zido posting times of 10:42.23 and 5:15.25, while Turk notched times of 10:50.35 and 5:17.98. Zido also posted a second place finish in the 200 free, recording a time of 1:57.16.

Molly McNamara was the final Viking to pick up a first place finish on the day, winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.46. McNamara also finished second in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 56.81.

Jamie Vandewerker also posted a pair of second place finishes against Wright State – in the 50 free (24.85) and the 100 free (53.86).

Cleveland State also got second place finishes from Michaela Bargardi in the 200 backstroke (2:10.53) and Cassie Oltman in the 100 backstroke (1:00.91).
