Vikings Defeat UIC, 172-128

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams got back to action Friday evening, as the men's team defeated UIC, 172-128 and the women fell to the Flames, 198.5-101.5.

In the relay events, the women had their best showing in the 400 medley, as the A-team finished second with a time of 3:57.19. The men's A-team won the 400 medley in a time of 3:19.94, while the A-team placed second in the 400 free with a time of 3:09.29.

Individually, the men were paced by nine first place finishes, including three from Philipp Sikatzki and Tommi Wolst. Sikatzki picked up his wins in the 200 free (1:42.00), 100 free (46.18), and the 100 fly (48.89). Wolst's top finishes came in the 100 back (50.89), 200 back (1:51.73), and the 200 individual medley (1:53.79).

Also picking up first place finishes were Phillip Brittain in the 50 free (21.53), Gage Alleman in the 200 breast (2:08.74), and Patrick Walsh in the 500 free (4:43.21).

The men were also able to pick up five second place finishes on the night – Mac Lewis in the 1000 free (9:52.32), Jonathon Lavalle in the 100 back (52.77), Jared Stergar in the 100 breast (59.40), Szymon Golczyk in the 200 fly (1:50.58), and Declan McLaughlin in the 50 free (21.58).

On the women's side, Molly McNamara picked up Cleveland State's only first place finish, winning the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.21. The women were also able to pick up four second place finishes against UIC – Claudia Zido in the 200 free (1:56.16), Tobie Zeller in the 100 breast (1:07.95), Ashleigh Bennett in the 50 free (24.84), and Cassandra Oltman in the 100 fly (59.47).

On the diving board, Tori Taffner won the 3M event, posting a score of 278.85 on six dives, while Sammie Sposet was Cleveland State's top finisher on the 1M board finishing first with a score of 237.90.

For the men, Danny Roberts placed second on the 3M board with a score of 286.35, while he won the 1M event with a score of 324.83.

The Vikings will host their final home meet of the 2015-16 season tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 16), hosting Wright State at 1:00 p.m. Tomorrow's meet will serve as senior day, with the Vikings honoring the 2015-16 senior class prior to the meet.
