Vikings Swim Past Gannon 158.5- 59.5

Cleveland, Ohio- The Cleveland State men's swimming and diving team defeated Gannon 158.5-59.5 on Friday afternoon at Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.

The Vikings (6-4-0) had first place finishes by Danny Roberts in the 3-meter dive with a top score of 361.30.  In the 400 medley relay the Vikings started off the meet with a top finish of 3:31.79.  CSU were led by Al Shillito, Declan McLaughlin, Justin Kermack, and Robert Tolson.  CSU's Adam Ingledew had solid swimming performance with a top time of 1:47.14 in the 200 freestyle.  Alex Lewis finished first in the 50 yard freestyle with a sprinting top time of 21.18.  Freshman Gage Alleman finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.11.  Stephen Schillero finished first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 358.20.  The men in the 200 butterfly went one-two-three.  Leading the way was Mauricio Gonzalez with a top time of 1:59.19.  Walsh's wall touch time was 1:59.95 and Alleman 2:03.40.
Lewis continued his dominance in the pool as he notched his second first place victory of the day in the 100 freestyle with a top time of 46.89.  Walsh added a first place win in the 500 free with a wall touch top time of 4:44.97.   Grant continued his improvement in the pool with a first place finish time of 2:10.45 in the 200 breastroke.  The men finished the meet off with a first place victory in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:15.53.  Lewis, Ingledew, Grant, and Shillito led the charge for CSU.
 
Head coach Wally Morton spoke about the men's dominant performance.  "I was very pleased with team's swims.  The teams swam with high energy and have the utmost respect for all of the opponents.  We did an excellent job racing against Gannon.  I thought the divers were really impressive with their dives and consistent and the hard work paid off," said a pleased Morton.
"We had some very impressive performances.  The swimmer who has been the most consistent swimmer is Alex Lewis and he did not disappoint.  He did what was necessary to dominate and completely control all of the swims.  The other swimmer I want to give recognition to is Mauricio Gonzalez.  His times were impressive and he looked really good in all of his events.  Gage Alleman had a nice showing and really worked him on his events.  He held up well and did a great job."  
 

Other key contributors that had second place finishes were Steve Schillero who took second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 355.00.  Freshman Patrick Walsh finished second in the 1,000 freestyle with a wall touch of 9:46.09.  Sophomore Nathan Grant wall touched right behind Ingledew with a runner-up time of 1:47.39 in the 200 freestyle.  Joshua Nordike and Gannon's Adam Chrzanowski ended up tying for second with a time of 21.95.  Jon Querciagrossa had a superb second place finish with a time of 2:00.76.   Roberts finished second with a score of 334.05.  Shillito finished third in the 100 free with a time of 48.10.

Kermack had a second place time of 1:56.54 in the 200 back and Ian Ward finished third in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.99.  Querciagrossa added a third place swim in the 500 free with a time of 4:50.88.
The Vikings will return back to action tomorrow afternoon as CSU will host conference opponent Wright State at Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.  Swimming events will begin at 1:00 p.m.
