Viking Men in the Lead

CLEVELAND, Ohio- The Cleveland State men's swimming and diving team competed in the Second Annual Magnus Cup on day one at Busbey Natatorium.  Cleveland State tallied 649.5 points on the day.

Alex Lewis had a speedy wall touch of a meet record time of 20.18.  He also had a great split time in the 400 medley with a time of 20.44.

In the finals, sophomore Danny Roberts finished first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 344.70.  Stephen Schillero finished behind Roberts with a score of 325.40. In the 50 yard breast, freshman Phillip Brittain came on top with a time of 26.20.   In the 500 freestyle Nathan Grant finished second with a time of 4:34.44.  In the 200 IM Justin Kermack finished third with a time of 1:53.26.  The Vikings finished the evening off strong with a top finish in the 400 Medley Relay.  CSU was led by Shillito, Grant, Kermack, and Lewis.
 
Other key contributors for CSU were Robert Tolson, Patrick Walsh, Joshua Nordike, and Kyle Riordan.  Both Riordan and Walsh went under 4:40 for the first time in their swimming careers.  Tolson had a very nice split time of 20.62 in the 200 Free Relay.
 
"Overall I am extremely happy that the men are in first, and are battling with Buffalo.   Meets like this we have mixed results.  For the most part the team is swimming very well and pleased with the overall performances, "said Morton.
 
The Vikings will be back in the pool tomorrow for day two of the Magnus Cup, with prelims beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the finals starting at 5:00 p.m.
