CLEVELAND- The Cleveland State Vikings' men's swimming team improved to 11-2-1 on the year this afternoon, after splitting two home contests between the Oakland Grizzlies and the Xavier Musketeers at a tri-meet.

The Vikings took down the Musketeers by a convincing 167-64 score, while falling in a close fought battle to the Grizzlies, 130-111.

With the team coming off of a month long break from collegiate competition, and having just returned home from a training trip in the Grand Cayman islands, Head Coach Wally Morton was happy with what he saw on the men's side.

"I like the way we raced, we had some good races, and we had some of our best swimmers pushed by Oakland University, one of the top mid-major programs in the country," Morton said. "I thought we were very competitive."

That Vikings were able to pick up five wins as a team on the afternoon, with freshman Danny Roberts leading the way with two individual wins. Roberts took home both the 3-meter (328.95) and 1-meter dive (295.58). The 3-meter scored bested second placed an impressive 31 points.

In the pool, CSU was able to earn 3 more individual wins to go along with Roberts' two. Senior Justin Hill was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (20.91), Justin Kermack brought home a win in the 200 butterfly (1:53.81), and senior Berry Thompson won the 100 freestyle (45.44).

Considering the travel and break the team just returned from, Morton knows the team will still be able to get better as the year goes on.

"The team is torn down with the training trip and all the travel," Morton said regarding the team just returning earlier this week. "We think we have a team that has a lot of potential but we have a lot of work ahead of us."

The Viking men will start that work as they are back home in competition twice next weekend, first taking on Notre Dame Friday at 4:00 p.m., before then hosting Wright State Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
