INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State junior men's soccer player Aaron Adkins has been named the Horizon League `Player of the Week' for the second time this season after he helped the Vikings defeat Butler and Canisius this week. The league office made the announcement on Monday afternoon.

"We've had guys get hurt, and we needed players to pick up the slack," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "Different guys have stepped up, but Aaron has really been someone we've looked to. He has come through for us in a lot of big moments, and we're really happy with the season he has had."

Adkins scored three goals in two matches this week, both 2-1 victories.

With the match against Butler on Wednesday (Oct. 26) tied at 1-1, Adkins took a corner kick from Brian Donnelly and headed it home for his third game-winner of the season.

In the non-league finale on Sunday (Oct. 30) against Canisius, Adkins opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. After Canisius tied the match in the 55th minute, he tallied his fourth game-winner of the season in the 67th minute.

Manuel Conde played a ball from the midfield stripe and Adkins caught up with it just outside the top right corner of the box. He knocked it just inside the far left post to give the Vikings the 2-1 lead that they clung to.

After his standout week, the junior forward from Bay Village, Ohio is tied with UIC's Ivan Stanisavljevic for the most goals (nine) in the Horizon League. With four game-winning goals, Adkins is tied with UIC's Eric Frazier for tops in the league.

Earlier this season, Adkins won the weekly award after scoring a hat trick against Loyola on Oct. 8.

Adkins and the Vikings will close out the regular season on Friday (Nov. 4) night at home against Detroit before the Horizon League Championships begin on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
