REVIEWING LAST WEEK: The Vikings were in action three times in the past week. Here are reviews of those contests:

Match 13: IPFW 2, CSU 1 (Oct. 14, Hefner Soccer Complex)
The Vikings fell behind early in the second half allowing the first IPFW goal just four minutes in, with the second goal coming 18 minutes later. Josh Williams scored the lone Viking goal in the 85th minute putting the ball between the post and the goalie off a pass up the middle from John Wargo.

Match 14: CSU 4, Detroit 3 (2OT) (Oct. 18, Krenzler Field)
Josh Williams' game-winning goal in the 105th minute gave CSU the 4-3 double overtime victory, stretching the Krenzler Field unbeaten streak to 12 (10-0-2). Admir Suljevic recorded the assist on the final play, and also scored the first two CSU goals of the match, the first of his career. Slavisa Ubiparipovic scored his third goal of the season in the 75th minute putting CSU up 3-1, not long before Detroit would tie the match at 3-3 sending it into overtime. Aaron Adkins tallied two assists with Williams marking the assist on the first CSU goal.

Match 15: CSU 2, Pittsburgh 2 (2OT) (Oct. 21, Founders Field)
Slavisa Ubiparipovic put the Vikings up early, scoring in the 11th minute off a Josh Williams pass, but the Panthers would take a 2-1 lead early in the second half. Williams scored his sixth goal of the season in the 83rd minute, sending the match into double overtime. Justin Mancine found Williams off a free kick from midfield, putting him one-on-one with the Pittsburgh goalie inside the box.

2009 SEASON PREVIEW: With 11 seniors returning, including nine that have been in the 2009 starting lineup so far, the men's soccer team is bringing experience and depth to the field this season. 2008 all-league first team honoree senior Slavisa Ubiparipovic returns up front, and is second on the team in points (13), leading the Vikings in assists (5) and ranking second on the team in goals (4). He is joined up front by freshmen Aaron Adkins (3g, 2a, 8pts) and Admir Suljevic (2g, 3a, 7pts) who both earned high school All-America honors following their senior campaigns, giving the Vikings a loaded front row. Experience is the key to the midfield this season, as all three starters return: Marco DiFranco, who is second on the team with four assists, Josh Williams who leads the team in goals with six and two assists for 14 points and Kevin Malone. The entire defense returns for 2009 after posting six shutouts last season. Leading the charge are seniors Eric Tattersall, Mitch Boyer (1g, 2pts) and Anthony Baraldi and junior Audric Kilroy (1a, 1pts). They have played in a combined 48 matches so far this season, allowing 22 goals. Goalkeeper Nick Harpel has played in nine contests, recording 38 saves, a 1.12 GAA and three shutouts. Backing up Harpel have been freshmen, Brad Stuver (35 saves) and Almir Suljevic (4 saves).

KRENZLER FIELD RECORD: The Vikings kept their Krenzler Field unbeaten streak alive, stretching it to 12 (10-0-2) with the victory over Detroit. The record dates back to Sept. 12, 2008 when CSU tied Niagara 3-3. During the stretch the Vikings have beat or tied 11 different teams, playing only Wright State twice at home last season.

...HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: The Vikings are one of only three Horizon League teams that are unbeaten on their home fields this season. Butler (4-0-0) and Green Bay (5-0-1) are the other two teams to remain undefeated at home. Last year CSU was the lone team to go undeafted at home throughout the entire season (6-0-1).

FRESHMEN-SENIOR CONNECTION: The freshmen duo of Admir Suljevic and Aaron Adkins joined with seniors Josh Williams and Slavisa Ubiparipovic to record all 12 CSU points in Sunday's (10/18) victory over Detroit. Suljevic led the group with five points (2 goals, 1 assist), with Williams (1 g), Ubiparipovic (1 g) and Adkins (2 a) each adding two points. This is the fifth match this season where a combination of freshmen and seniors recorded all of the goals and assists for the Vikings, the first time was in the 3-0 shutout against St. Bonaventure (9/1) when Mitch Boyer (1g), Adkins (1g), Suljevic (1a), Williams (1g) and Ubiparipovic (2a) led CSU.

EYES BACK ON SULJEVIC: Freshman Admir Suljevic tallied the first two CSU goals of the match on Sunday (10/18) along with recording the assist on the game-winning goal in the 105th minute. The goals were the first of his career, while the assist was his third. Suljevic is just the fourth player in nine years to record two goals and one assist in the same match, with Slavisa Ubiparipovic being the last to accomplish the feat against Wright State last season. Although he is the fourth Viking to record the stats, he is the first freshman and the first to score his first and second career goals while doing so.

SCORING SENIOR: Josh Williams recorded his sixth goal of the season in the 2-2 tie against Pittsburgh in the 83rd minute, sending the match into double overtime. Williams leads the Vikings in goals this season (6), while he is also tied for the lead in career goals with 12. He is second on the team with 32 career points, following classmate Slavisa Ubiparipovic who has 35 career points. Williams leads the team with 14 points for the 2009 season.

FANTASTIC FOUR: The last time the Vikings scored four goals in a match was the first contest of the 2006 season when CSU shutout Robert Morris, 4-0. Two current Vikings recorded points during the match, Mike Barton (1 assist) and Marco DiFranco (1 goal).

MONTH OF SCORING: Sixteen current players have scored at least one point during the month of October in their career, led by senior Josh Williams who has recorded 19 points. The rest of the group includes; Slavisa Ubiparipovic (13), Mitch Boyer (8 pts), Marco DiFranco (7), Admir Suljevic (5), Stephen Byer (4), Eric Tattersall (2), Bryan Henson (2), Aaron Adkins (4), Jeff Baker (1), John Wallace (1), Brian Donnelly (1), Kevin Malone (1), Mike Barton (1), John Wargo (1) and Justin Mancine (1).

STUVER SAVES: Brad Stuver still holds the Horizon League record for the most individual saves in a single match this season with his 10 save effort at Milwaukee (10/2). Stuver is tied for eighth in the Horizon League with 35 saves, and is sixth with 11 saves in conference matches only.

1,000 MINUTE CLUB: Six Vikings have been on the field for more than 1,000 minutes of action this season, including seniors Josh Williams, Slavisa Ubiparipovic and Marco DiFranco, junior Audric Kilroy, sophomore Justin Mancine and freshman Admir Suljevic. The group has tallied 14 out of the 19 CSU goals (.737) and 16 of the 20 assists (.800). At least four of them have been starters in all 15 matches for the Vikings this season, with all six starting at least nine contests.

NEXT UP: The Vikings will return to Krenzler Field for their final home match of the 2009 regular season when the Butler Bulldogs come to town on Saturday (Oct. 31). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
