INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State junior men's soccer player Aaron Adkins has been named the Horizon League `Player of the Week' for the first time in his career after his performance against Loyola last Saturday (Oct. 8). The league office made the announcement on Monday afternoon.
"I'm very happy for Aaron because he works so hard," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "He stays after practice and comes in for extra work. You have to give him a lot of credit because he doesn't stop. For a forward, there's nothing better than scoring goals. He earned this with all the time he puts in and I couldn't be happier for him."
Adkins racked up his first career hat trick against Loyola to help the Vikings improve to 2-1-1 in league play.
His first goal, the game-winner, came in the ninth minute and was his second game-winner of the season (tied for second in the league) and sixth of his career. He scored again in the 54th minute and then followed up two minutes later with his third goal of the match.
After his three goal performance, the junior forward from Bay Village is tied with teammate Admir Suljevic and Butler's Austin Oldham for fourth in the league with five goals. His 10 points ties him for seventh in the Horizon League.
Adkins and the Vikings will look to continue their three-match winning streak when they play at UIC on Friday (Oct. 14) night at 8:00 p.m. EST.
