CLEVELAND, OH - Freshman soccer player Nick Harpel and junior volleyball player Jenni Ramminger have been selected as the Cleveland State Student-Athletes of the Month for their performances during the last week of August and the month of September. Director of Athletics Lee Reed made the announcement on Wednesday.

Harpel, who was the Horizon League Player of the Week on Sept. 10, has provided the Viking defense with a huge lift as he has started six matches and posted a 3-2-1 record. Harpel opened his collegiate career by not allowing a goal in his first 282:40 of action as he posted back-to-back road shutouts of Niagara and Western Michigan before allowing the first goal of his collegiate career at Kentucky in the 58th minute as CSU played to a 1-1 draw. In addition, Harpel became the first CSU goalkeeper to stop a penalty shot since 2004 when he blocked Duquesne's Alex Trujillo on Sept. 23. The Toledo native ranks second in the conference in save percentage (.805), third in goals against average (1.11) and is tied for third in shutouts (3).

Jenni Ramminger

Selected as the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 28, Ramminger has helped the Vikings to an 11-5 overall record this season by ranking seventh in the league in blocks (1.10 bpg) and eighth in hitting percentage (.301). In addition, she is tops on the Vikings with 196 kills and is tied for the team-lead with 21 service aces. Ramminger tallied a career-high 23 kills in a 3-2 win over Milwaukee on Sept. 29 to help CSU knock off the Panthers for the first time since 2004. Ramminger, who was selected to a pair of all-tournament teams, has worked her way up the career charts at CSU this season as she ranks fourth all-time in hitting percentage (.280), sixth in block assists (264) and eighth in total blocks (294).

The Athlete of the Month was developed last year to honor Viking student-athletes for their on-field accomplishments. A female and male honoree will be selected at the conclusion of each month during the school year. Cleveland State sponsors 17 varsity sports, of which women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and volleyball are currently competing.
