CLEVELAND, Ohio - Junior Tom Sadd has been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Sadd, an international business major, carries a 3.83 grade point average and is the first male athlete at CSU to capture the weekly honor. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (Oct. 3).

Sadd, a defender from Christchuch, New Zealand and a team co-captain, helped the Vikings to a 1-0 overtime win at Butler on Saturday (Sept. 30), giving the Vikings their first Horizon League win since September, 2003. He also had a shot on goal against the Bulldogs.

Sadd was named to the Horizon League All-Academic team in 2005 and was a member of the league's Academic Honor Roll for both semesters last year.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards for this academic year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievements by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by each institution's sports information directors.

Detroit's Mary Parker claimed this week's honor on the women's side.

Cleveland State (4-6-1, 1-2 HL) is on the road for two matches this week. The Vikings travel to Rutgers tonight (Oct. 3) at 8:00 p.m., followed by a 7:00 p.m. contest at UIC on Sunday (Oct. 8).
