COLUMBUS, Ohio - Former Cleveland State soccer player Josh Williams - now with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer - started the first match of his professional career on Saturday (April 21), a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dynamo.
Williams logged 90 minutes in what was his third appearance of the season.
During a playing career that spanned from 2006-2009, Williams started all 74 matches he appeared in for the Green and White. He scored 12 career goals - including five game-winners - and had eight assists.
A native of Copley, Ohio and graduate of Copley High School, Williams started his career during Ali Kazemaini's first year as the head coach at Cleveland State and made an impression immediately, earning Horizon League All-Newcomer team status in 2006.
In each of his final two seasons, Williams was elected as the team captain. He played his way onto the 2008 Horizon League All-Tournament team and racked up first team all-league honors as a senior.
