GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Cleveland State men's soccer team had its season come to a close on Friday night as it fell in a shootout, 4-2, to Green Bay in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament.

The teams played to a 0-0 tie during the 90 minutes of regulation and neither team could net a goal in either of the two 10 minute overtimes, which sent the game to a shootout.

"It was an unfortunate way to end the season," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "But that's the game of soccer. We both had some good scoring opportunities, but couldn't convert. Our defense was outstanding all night.

"We grew a lot as a team this season and with such a young team, we know what we have to do to improve for next season."

In the shootout, Green Bay converted all four of its attempts while junior goalkeeper Adam Stikl came up with two saves on Cleveland State spot kicks.

Green Bay outshot CSU, 13-9, with CSU freshman Nick Harpel posting five saves. Stikl recorded two saves for the Phoenix. Green Bay also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks for the match.

The Vikings conclude the season with a record of 3-12-3. Green Bay will face Butler on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League Championship. The winner will take on No. 1 seed Loyola on Friday, Nov. 15 in semifinal action.
