Durham N.C. 23rd ranked Duke used two first half goals and another in the second half to down the Vikings 3-0 Sunday night (Oct. 28) in Durham, North Carolina. The loss drops the Vikings to 3-12-2, while the Blue Devils improve to 9-5-1.

"This was a real good experience for the players," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "We really need to play in these types of atmospheres to get better."

Duke started the scoring at the 5:38 mark as Zach Pope took a corner kick that teammate Michael Videira headed the ball into the goal for his second goal of the season.

"That goal was a tough one to give up just five and a half minutes into the game," Kazemaini said. "Duke is too good to give up goals that early into the contest."

The score remained 1-0 until late in the first half when Joe Germanese made a nice pass to Spencer Wadsworth, who right footed a shot from the top of the box that landed in the right side of the goal.

Duke closed out the scoring at the 86:38 mark as Joshua Medcalf scored his sixth goal of the season when he took a Mike Grella pass from 15 yard out and blasted it off the outstretched hands of goal keeper Nick Harpel.

The 23rd ranked Bluedevils dominated in every aspect of the game as they out shot the Vikings 25-5 and had an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Mitch Boyer led the Vikings in shots with three, while Marco DiFranco had their only shot on goal. Dan Duric and Nick Harpel combined for three saves.

"We played in a tough atmosphere and I thought our kids handled it well," Kazemaini said. "I'm proud of the way the players played through it."

The Vikings close out the regular season next Friday (Nov. 2) when it travels to Valparaiso for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
