After falling behind 3-0, CSU began a valiant comeback bid when freshman Josh Williams found the back of the net with a header at the 68:56 mark. Sophomore Nenad Stojkovic played the ball head to Williams for the assist.
The Vikings made things interesting at the 82:06 mark when Stojkovic struck the back of the net off a pass from freshman George Kephart to pull within a goal at 3-2.
"We rely a lot on Nenad on offense," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "He got some great experience this year and we expect him to be an impact player for us in the future.
"We made some adjustments and I was happy with the way we managed to play our brand of soccer. We just weren't consistent enough."
Loyola broke a scoredless tie at the 10:56 mark when Steven Graner took a cross from Keum Sung Kim from the right cornere and scored off a header. The rest of the first half was all CSU, as the Vikings had two good scoring opportunities, including a shot by Kephart in the 13th minute that hit the post and a shot by senior David Stewart that required a diving save by Loyola's Sean Bond. Stojkovic had a shot in the box sail just wide in the first half.
"I thought we absolutely dominated the final 25 minutes of the first half," Kazemaini said. "We were controlling play but failed to get anything out of it."
Loyola took a 2-0 lead at the 55:30 mark on a goal that was originally credited to Eric Gehric , who sent a cross over a crowd of players and into the goal. However, the goal was actually scored by Javier Lopez, who deflected Gehrig's cross into the net.
The Ramblers' third goal came off a header from Matt Marek off a free kick from Keum Sung Kim in the 69th minute.
Williams led the Vikings with three shots while Stojkovic added two. Loyola's Michael Ferguson had a game-high four shots.
Sophomore Kasey Gray played all 90 minutes in goals and posted four saves.
Loyola enjoyed slight edges in shots (13-11) and shots on goal (7-4) and had a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
