CLEVELAND, Ohio - A goal in the 59th minute pushed IUPUI past Cleveland State, 1-0, in a non-league match at Krenzler Field on Wednesday (Oct. 19) afternoon.

Sam Fuller scored the only goal of the match when he headed a ball that went just over the outstretched arms of CSU goalkeeper - and Horizon League `Player of the Week' - Brad Stuver and found the back of the net.

The loss ends Cleveland State's four-match winning streak and drops them a game below the .500 mark at 6-7-1 overall. The Vikings still sit atop the Horizon League standings with 10 points.

IUPUI improved to 5-8-2 on the year.

Weather was unquestionably a factor in the match. By the end of the game, the artificial playing surface at Krenzler Field was full of patches of water that killed any ball. The inclement weather forced the postponement of the Cleveland State women's game that was scheduled to follow the men's game.

CSU head coach Ali Kazemaini, while quick to credit the Jaguars, pointed out how Mother Nature didn't permit his team to play their style.

"Our game is maintaining possession on the ground, and we just couldn't do that because of the weather," Kazemaini said. "I told the kids after the game that I was proud of the effort, and we did make an effort to play good, sound soccer and try and piece together scoring opportunities. We had chances and didn't convert. Given the circumstances, I thought we played okay."

The Vikings put three shots on goal with one each from Aaron Adkins, Jordan Hart and Cameron Eisses. A last minute scoring opportunity from Caleb Eastham caromed off the crossbar and IUPUI was able to run the remaining 42 seconds off the clock to head back to Indianapolis with a victory in their first ever visit to Cleveland.

The Jaguars now lead the all-time series, 3-0-1.

The Vikings will try and return to their winning ways in a pivotal Horizon League match with Green Bay on Saturday (Oct. 22) night. The Phoenix will bring their 2-2 league record to Cleveland for a match scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
