MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Host UW-Milwaukee scored twice in the first half and CSU managed just one shot on goal as the Panthers defeated the Vikings, 2-1, on Sunday (Oct. 15) at Engelmann Field. The loss drops CSU to 4-9-2 and 1-4 in Horizon League play. UW-Milwaukee improves to 5-8-2 and 1-2-1 in league play.

UWM took an early lead after CSU freshman Eric Tattersall was issued a yellow card at the 6:24 mark, setting up a free kick from 25 yards out at the top of the box. Craig Mallace fired the free shot into the back of the net pas CSU keeper Kasey Gray to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead at the 6:26 mark.

Milwaukee added another tally off a Billy Meier header at the 17:45 mark.

"We didn't really play very well early and they made us pay," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "They had some other good opportunities beside the two goals. We were fortunate enough to only give up two."

Freshman Macro DiFranco negated UWM's shutout effort with a tally off a free kick from 30 yards out with just two seconds remaining. It was DiFranco's second goal on the season and first since the season opener against Robert Morris on Aug. 25.

UWM controlled throughout most of the match, outshooting the Vikings, 32-9, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. The Panthers also had eight corner kicks to just one for CSU.

"We didn't move the ball as well as we would have liked," Kazemaini said. "We simply didn't have a great day offensively."

Steve Sperl led UW-Milwaukee with 10 shots, including three on goal. The 10 shots are the most by one player against CSU this year.

DiFranco led the Vikings with three shots while sophomore Nenad Stojkovic and freshman George Kephart each had two. Gray had eight saves for the Vikings in 90 minutes in goal.

The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in their home finale against Detroit. Kickoff against the Titans is slated for 7:00 p.m.
