CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State men's soccer team fell to Notre Dame, 6-0 on a soggy night at Krenzler Field. The six goals allowed by the Vikings are the most since an 8-0 defeat at the hands of UW-Milwaukee in the Horizon League Championship game last season.

CSU held close for the early part of the match, holding the No. 12 Irish scoreless until the 26th minute, when Devon Prescod scored the first of his three goals. Justin Detter the first of his two goals on the night just four minutes later to put the Vikings in a 2-0 hole. Notre Dame made the score 3-0 at the break when Prescod scored his second goal off a header with just over three minutes left to play in the half.

"I thought for much of the first half, we played a very close game," head coach Pete Curtis said. "Our forwards played with a lot of speed and intensity and put a lot of pressure on their defense. Unfortunately, our defensive frailties reared their ugly head once again, and we were put back on our heels."

In the second half, Greg Martin scored in the 58th minute mark, collecting a errant clearance from goalkeeper Amir Kettani and hitting a long range shot to the far post. Detter tallied his second goal of the match five minutes later, and Prescod finished off the scoring with his third goal of the game at the 71 minute mark of the match.

The Vikings were without the services of senior defender Benny Eck, who missed his second straight match as a result of his second red card of the season. Eck will be available for CSU's next match, on Thursday against Bowling Green.

"Obviously, Benny gives us more speed and experience on the back line," Curtis said. "He gives us more options defensively than we've had the past two games, and we've definitely missed his influence. Hopefully his return will be a boost to our defense."

The Vikings will next face Bowling Green on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
