Columbus, Ohio - After letting up a goal in the 2nd minute, the Cleveland State men's soccer team wasn't able to make a come back through the rest of the 43 minutes of play, as the Vikings fell 2-0 to Ohio State.

"Despite the score, we controlled much of the first half and played good soccer, but we had mental lapses and that is when the goals happened," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "We need to come out on the field and be sharp and not give up the easy goals, and create more opportunities in the box for our offense."

Both goals were scored during the first half of action with the first OSU goal coming from Austin McAnena in the 2nd minute when he found the right side of the net after crossing the ball from the left side of the box. Matt Gold and Chris Hegngi recorded the assists on the goal.

The Buckeyes scored again in the 19th minute off an Ohio State free kick. Doug Verhoff tallied the unassisted goal, giving OSU the 2-0 lead.

OSU held a slight lead in shots on goal, 7-5 and a 12-8 lead in shots during the contest. Admir Suljevic recorded a pair of shots on goal, with Anthony Baraldi, Marco DiFranco and Brian Murphy each adding one.

Nick Harpel and Brad Stuver split the contest in goal for the Vikings, recording a combined five saves.

"We are working with some injuries, so it throws off the lineup a bit," Kazemaini said. "And that means that our team chemistry may be a bit off, so that is something that we need to work on in Sunday's match."

With the loss, CSU falls to 3-5-3 on the season, while Ohio State improves to 7-2-3.

The Vikings return to Krenzler Field on Sunday (Oct. 11) for a 1:00 p.m. contest against SIU-Edwardsville.
