CHICAGO, Ill. - Cleveland State yielded one goal in each half and UIC smothered the Vikings' offensive attack in a 2-0 loss on Sunday (Oct. 8) night at Flames Field. The loss drops CSU to 4-8-1 and 1-3 in Horizon League play. UIC improves to 9-1-2 and 3-0 in league play.

Eric Cervantes chipped in a rebound to give the Flames a 1-0 lead at the 29:38 mark. UIC's Tonci Skroce increased the Flames' lead in the match's 54th minute when he took a long ball from goalie Jovan Bubonja and flipped a shot over the head of CSU goalie Kasey Gray.

CSU could not sustain anything on the offensive end, managing just three shots (two on goal) in the entire match. The Vikings, playing on the road for the fourth straight match, didn't attempt a shot until sophomore Nenad Stojkovic attempted a shot in the 39th minute.

Freshmen George Kephart and Pete Wagner each had a shot on goal for the Vikings.

"We just couldn't get anyone free against UIC's defense," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "Overall, I thought we played them fairly even but they made some plays and we couldn't get anything going."

Things got violent in the 57th minute when UIC's Adnan Ejupovic struck freshman Bryan Henson, resulting in a red card for Ejupovic.

Each team was issued one yellow card, with freshman Anthony Baraldi and UIC's Baggio Husidic being cautioned in the 21st and 57 minutes, respectively.

Bubonja played all 90 minutes of the shutout and stopped two shots. Gray notched three saves in his complete game effort.

CSU continues on the road on Wednesday (Oct. 11) with a 7:00 p.m. match at IPFW.
