CLEVELAND, Ohio - Loyola scored a goal in each half and defeated Cleveland State, 2-0, at Krenzler Field in Horizon League action on Sunday afternoon. Loyola improved to 5-3-3 overall and 1-0-2 in league play, while the Vikings fell to 3-6-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.

The Ramblers took a 1-0 lead just 10:40 into the match as they took advantage of a Viking turnover in their own defensive end. Loyola's Markian Zyga intercepted a pass and fed Michael Fergusson who hammered a shot into the lower left corner of the net for his eighth goal of the season.

Despite being outshot, 12-4, the Vikings were able to keep it to a one goal game until Loyola's Keum Sung Kim scored on a free kick from the top of the box at the 82:58 mark. . "Both of their goals were off turnovers," head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "If we could eliminate turnovers, our outcomes would be better, but overall I thought we played tough this afternoon and I'm pleased with their effort.

"We have a very young team," Kazemaini said. "After battling to a 1-1 tie with UIC on Friday, the team had tired legs because of the heat and humidity."

Freshmen Nick Harpel posted five saves including a spectacular save on a shot from Fergusson in the 89th minute when he deflected a point blank shot. Loyola's Brian Byrne earned the shutout by making three saves. .

The Vikings return to action this weekend when they travel to Green Bay on Friday for an 8:00 pm contest.
