CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's soccer team extended its season-long scoring drought 329:35 with a 4-0 loss to Butler at Krenzler Field on Sunday. The Bulldogs scored three second half goals in the match, all after a second yellow card to Mark Zambra that forced the Vikings to play one man short.

"The pivotal moment in the match was Mark's [Zambra] second yellow card in the 57th minute," head coach Pete Curtis said. "At that point we were still in the match, but it is very tough to play shorthanded against a team like Butler."

The Bulldogs, who took a 1-0 lead on a Jason Keiffer goal in the 30th minute, scored their first second half marker on a penalty shot in the 67th minute. Just 90 seconds later, Butler would put another one past Vikings' goalkeeper Anthony DeMarco and scored their third in the 73rd minute.

"Butler took full advantage of the man down and scored all their goals within a six-minute period," Curtis said. "With that said, I think we received a couple outstanding performances. Most notably Craig Coleman and Nenad Stojkovic."

"Craig showed why he is one of the best defenders in the league," Curtis said. "And Nenad's work ethic today should be an example to all the offensive players."

DeMarco recorded five saves in the match for the Vikings, while Bulldog's goalkeeper Frank Peabody made four saves.

The Vikings will have to play shorthanded on Tuesday, as Zambra must sit out following his two yellow cards and Craig Coleman picked up his fifth yellow card on the season, which will force him to sit out the game as well.

"We are going to be very thin on Tuesday," Curtis said. "We will still be without Kim Kroken who is recovering from a hamstring injury and Mark and Craig will have to sit out. It will give some of our other guys some good opportunities to play."

The loss came on a day when the Cleveland State community celebrated the almost $3 million in renovations made over the course of the last year to Krenzler Field. Judge Alvin Krenzler, for whom the facility is named, was on hand for a pre-match brunch and he was honored in a ceremony before the contest.

The Vikings will be back in action when they travel to Western New York on Tuesday for a non-conference match against Niagara at 3:00 p.m. CSU returns home on Sunday, Oct. 9 when it plays in the opening game of a doubleheader with the Viking women's team. The men square off against UIC at 11:00 a.m.
