Final Stats

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Cleveland State defeated Marshall (3-4-0) 5-2 Sunday afternoon in the third match of the Kentucky Traditional Bank Invitational. With the victory the Vikings improve to 4-4-0, giving CSU more wins than in any of the past three entire seasons. In addition, it was the Vikings' first win over Marshall in three tries.

Following a scoreless first half, senior O.C. Haugen (Hornindal, Norway/Stryn) found the back of the net just 51 seconds into the second stanza. After Marshall knotted the score at the 50:43 mark, freshman Adrian Balc (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) put the Vikings back on top just 13 second later.

Balc struck again in the 57th minute with what proved to be his third game-winning goal of the season. Senior Joachim Walker (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) and sophomore Stephen Ademolu (Windsor, Ontario/Herman) rounded out the scoring for CSU.

Senior goalkeeper Josip Novkovic (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) made seven saves for the Vikings.

Ademolu and Balc both earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after scoring a pair of goals in the tournament.

The Vikings look to get back over the .500 mark when they travel to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Sept. 28 for a 2:30 p.m. match.
