LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Cal Poly's Julian Alvarez scored off an assist from Daniel Cumming in the 10th minute to lift the Mustangs to a 1-0 win over Cleveland State in the final day of action at the UNLV adidas Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

CSU fell to 2-3-1 this season, while Cal Poly improved to 3-1 this year as it posted its third shutout of the season.

The Mustangs scored the lone goal of the match at the 10:17 mark of the first half when Cumming dribbled through the CSU defense and played a ball to Alvarez who beat Viking keeper Dan Duric in the upper lefthand corner.

"We had possession, but an errant pass led to them coming the other way," CSU head coach Ali Kazemaini said. "We didn't react as fast as we needed to and their player finished well. Other than that breakdown, I thought we played really well today."

CSU outshot Cal Poly, 11-7, but managed just one shot on goal.

"We had a lot of chances to score, but just couldn't take advantage of our opportunities today," Kazemaini said. "We were a bit unlucky at times, but overall we had a great experience out here and went head-to-head with these guys."

Duric finished with four saves for CSU, while Eric Branagan-Franco made one save to earn his third shutout between the pipes.

CSU will return home for a 7:00 pm nonconference match with Notre Dame (OH) on Wednesday night at Krenzler Field.
