Cleveland State Men's Soccer Set to Face IUPUI in Championship Rematch

Opening Whistle
Cleveland State and IUPUI meet on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of the 2022 Horizon League Championship game, in which the Green and White won on Krenzler Field, 3-0.

Last Game Out
Cleveland State recorded its first league win of the year after defeating Northern Kentucky at home, 2-1. The Norse started the scoring with a penalty kick in the 46th minute before Josip Rimac scored his first collegiate goal in the 53rd minute and Pablo Kawecki tallied the game-winner in the 89th minute.

About IUPUI
The Jaguars come into the game with a 4-4-3 overall record and sit atop the league standings with an unbeaten mark of 3-0-1. IUPUI dropped its last game at Butler on Tuesday by a score of 3-1. The Jaguars are 3-1-1 on their home field. Lukas Hackaa and Josemir Gomez lead the offense with five goals apiece. Emerson Nieto leads the team with three assists. Lucas Morefield and Bryson Najarian have shared time in goal, with Morefield carrying a 4-3-0 record with two shutouts and 23 saves.

Series History
This will be the 11th meeting all-time with these two teams, with the Green and White leading 5-3-2. The Vikings have won the last four contests by a combined score of 10-1. IUPUI's last victory came back in 2011 in Cleveland.

Goal Streak
Pablo Kawecki has scored in four consecutive games and leads the squad in scoring with five. The senior now has 22 total goals in his career.

#HLMSOC Award
This past week, Kawecki earned his second career weekly honor and the first of the season for Cleveland State. In the two games, Kawecki recorded two goals and an assist for five points as the Green and White went 1-1.

Preseason Poll
Cleveland State was picked to finish first in the Horizon League preseason poll, as voted on by the league's ten coaches. The Vikings finished with nine of the ten first-place votes for 99 total points. IUPUI was selected second with the final first-place vote for 80 points, and Oakland was third with 71 points.
