Cleveland State Men's Soccer Wins a Thriller at Army, 4-2

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Vikings (3-0-0) won a thrilling 4-2 game against Army (0-2-1) on Friday evening. With the victory, Cleveland State is off to its best start since 1982.

THE GAME
Army claimed the first lead of the game in the 11th minute as Gage Guerra converted a penalty kick. The Vikings needed just four minutes to tie the game as Pablo Kawecki headed it home off a perfect cross from Ryan Kolonick.

Cleveland State jumped in front during the 23rd minute as Kyle Folds scored off a failed clearance on an Albert Portas free kick. The Black Knights retied the game in the 30th minute with a Nick Atkinson header off a Cooper Warren free kick from 30-yards out. Just five minutes later, the Green and White went back on top as Kawecki scored his second of the game off a cross from Nick McCausland.

The Vikings went into the intermission leading 3-2, outshooting the home team, 7-4 with six of those shots on goal.

It took until the 66th minute for either team to score when the Green and White's leading scorer, Jannis Schmidt found the back of the net to lead 4-2.

The Green and White outshot Army in the game 12-9 with Kawecki accounting for five of those. Bojan Kolevski and Kawecki finished with three shots on goal apiece.

Max Kasputis picked up the win in goal for the Vikings after making just one save.

UP NEXT
Cleveland State returns home on Tuesday, September 7 at 7 p.m. against No. 11 Marshall. This is one of two non-conference games that the Vikings will be charging for.
