Lagania Named Horizon League Offensive Player Of The Week

Cleveland State sophomore Jake Lagania has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week for his impressive play last week vs. Northern Kentucky and Oakland.

In the 2-1 loss to Northern Kentucky, Lagania was credited with the assist on Victor Zamora's first-career goal in the 11th minute of the match. In addition, Lagania tallied eight shots in the match, five of which came within the first 20 minutes.

On Saturday, Lagania was pivotal in helping the Vikings secure a 4-3 overtime victory over Oakland for their first league win of the season. In the 15th minute, Lagania broke loose and scored his fourth goal of the season. After another CSU goal from Sergio Manesio and three unanswered Oakland goals, Lagania then found the back of the net again in the 70th minute, just 1:10 after the Golden Grizzlies' go-ahead goal.

All-in-all, Lagania finished the week with five points on two goals, an assist and 11 total shots. He has scored at least one point in four of the Vikings previous five matches.

After switching from the back to the forward position, Lagania is now tied for the Horizon League-lead in goals (5), points (12) and points per game (1.09). He is also top-10 in shots, shots/goals per game and assists. In conference matches, Lagania is in sole-possession of goals scored (3).

For his career, Lagania has played in all 30 possible games and has started 28 of those, scoring 16 points on six goals and four assists.

The Vikings will return to the pitch this Tuesday (Oct. 13) for a non-conference meeting at Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m.
