ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sergio Manesio scored on a free kick from 25-yards out five minutes into overtime to help Cleveland State to a 4-3 victory at Oakland on Saturday night.
The win improves CSU to 4-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the Horizon League, while the Golden Grizzlies fell to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the league.
The Vikings jumped on the board quickly, using a breakaway goal by Jake Lagania just 15 minutes in for a 1-0 lead.
It stayed that way until three minutes into the second half when Manesio headed in a free kick from Dan Koniarczyk to give CSU a 2-0 lead.
However, the Golden Grizzlies scored three unanswered goals, scoring in the 51st, 61st and 69th minutes to take a 3-2 lead. All three goals were scored off rebounds from initial shots.
It did not take long for the Vikings to knot the contest as Lagania tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the season off an assist from Alec Nagucki at the 69:52 mark.
Neither team would score for the remaining 20 minutes of regulation, sending the contest into overtime and after an Oakland foul, Manesio netted the game-winning goal with his free kick.
Aleksandar Drobac made eight saves for the Vikings.
The Vikings are back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 13) when CSU plays at Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m.
