Men's Soccer Falters On The Road, 3-0

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's soccer team fell on the road Sunday night to Bowling Green, 3-0.

CSU fell to 0-3 on the year while the Falcons improved to 4-0.

The Vikings have been doomed by quick starts from the opposition thus far in 2015. Sunday night, to CSU's misfortune, was much of the same case. A fourth minute goal by Joe Sullivan, his third of the year, and a ninth minute goal by Pat Flynn, his fifth of the year, allowed Bowling Green to take a commanding 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes. While the two sides traded shots over the final 35 minutes, the score remained 2-0 into the half. Sergio Manesio, Kevin Blackwood, Kareem Banton and Gianluca DiFranco all recorded shots in the first half for CSU. Nick Ciraldo recorded three saves in the first half for the Vikings.

The second half opened up with 20 scoreless minutes before Pat Flynn's second goal of the night, this time from 18 yards out, extended BG's lead to 3-0 in the 67th minute. That was all the Falcons needed as the score finished 3-0.

CSU's Silvester Messiah started the game, his first appearance since a season-ending leg injury in the first game of 2014 vs. Salem Int'l. Freshman Antonio Burgoa recorded his first career start for the Vikings just days after he recorded his first collegiate goal on Sept. 3.

Ciraldo finished with seven saves for CSU, again logging all 90 minutes in goal.

Sophomores Jake Lagania and Alec Nagucki continued their games played streak, extended to 22 straight games.

The Vikings will be back in action with two weekend games at the Duquesne Invitational. The first vs. Cornell on Friday (Sept. 11) at 4:00 p.m. and the second on Sunday (Sept. 13) at Duquesne at 3:00 p.m.
